Session Purpose

The purpose of this presentation is to further develop the problem solving and process improvement abilities of attendees; thus increasing their impact / potential for advancement. To accomplish this purpose there will be a combined instruction and hands on workshop focused on understanding Lean Six Sigma and application of one foundational Lean tool, with a focus on developing the understanding and application of Lean Six Sigma for the learning professional.

At the end of this session participants will:
  1. Understand what Lean Six Sigma is (and is not)
  2. Understand why organizations adopt a Lean Six Sigma strategy
  3. Be able to identify process wastes and improve problem solving efforts
  4. Have greater ability to improve work processes and procedures
Session Outline
  1. We will define the terminology of Lean Six Sigma to include COPQ, principles of Lean and process waste. We will also look at the core four metrics of process improvement and discuss common traps of metrics.
  2. We will use a simulation where all attendees participate. Purpose of simulation is to train everyone on a core Lean Six Sigma concept and provide a method that learning professionals can potentially use in their current position.
  3. Q&A session.
About Our Speaker

Erik Christensen is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and is currently the President of Las Vegas Lean Six Sigma. He has 30 years’ experience teaching, training and consulting in both government and private sector. Background includes a career in the U.S. Air Force, five years as a federal government internal consultant and entrepreneur. Mr. Christensen has also designed and developed Lean Six Sigma course materials and conducted workshops for clients on Lean Six Sigma solutions. In addition to teaching, his experience includes facilitation, course development, sales, aircraft maintenance and project management. Mr. Christensen holds degrees in Information Technology (BS) and Business Administration (MBA).
