Triple Impact Practitioners’ Program: Conscious Use of Self and Organizational Change

Managing change in today's organizations is a constant challenge. This presentation will focus on a crucial ability in managing organizational change: managing ourselves. We too often rely on habitual, automatic behaviors and fail to use ourselves to generate the focus and influence needed to be effective.


This program explores how to manage ourselves through understanding our choices at the following levels:
1. Our individual behavior
2. The emotions and feelings that drive our behavior
3. The thoughts that drive our emotions and feelings
4. The belief systems that drive our thoughts
Working at the level of our belief systems can be transformative!

Through understanding these choices, we can become more effective at

  • Maintaining clarity of intention rather being distracted by our automatic, habitual responses.
  • Building the connectivity with those needed to drive the support systems for our change goals to critical mass.
  • Managing our egos so that they add value to the change process rather than detract from it.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify when they are on automatic and whether a more intentional approach is needed.
  • Understand why they make the choices they make and how to become more intentional about them, if they choose to.
  • How to improve their skills in these areas to help them become more effective in every area of their lives.

Mary Orton, M.A., has been helping organizations with change processes for more than 25 years. Her expertise lies in helping groups solve complex problems through working productively together. For eleven years, she has consulted with local and federal government agencies, Native American nations and tribes, and non-profit organizations. She has helped Grand Canyon National Park, Salt River Project, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Hualapai Tribe, and the Las Vegas Clark County Library District, among others, to manage change and address conflict. Mary's Master's degree is in the constructive engagement of conflict and she was adjunct professor at the Arizona State University Law School.
