The presentation will focus on six aspects of gamification and game-based learning: an introduction to gamification and game-based learning; why it works; where it fits; measuring the effectiveness; how to implement serious games in the corporate workplace and appropriate use cases for game-based learning. The session will conclude with a fast moving game based learning activity designed to test attendee knowledge of the material that was presented as well as demonstrate a mobile learning application.
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
1. Explain the role of gamification in training and learning.
2. Name the key differentiators of gamification
3. Describe the business fit and ROI impact of gamification
4. Practice using current gaming technology
First we will define the terminology of gamification and game based learning as it applies to the corporate learning environment. We will look at the content domains of knowledge, concepts, and skills and explore what might be appropriate use cases for each type of gamification and game-based learning.
Next we will examine the present state of eLearning in corporate training and how game-based learning might be employed to improve learning and retention. We will review the brain science behind game-based learning and how it addresses the four C’s: communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
The third part of the session will explore how to set up a Measurement model to evaluate the business outcomes of a game-based learning initiative. We will also present an implementation model for cohort-based serious games. We will conclude with a group game exercise utilizing mobile technology.
Carol Clark has over 25 years of successful Sales/Sales Management experience in training/software/computer and web related industries. Background includes teaching in both the public and private sectors, working with adolescents and adult learners. Ms. Clark has also designed and developed course materials and conducted workshops for clients on topics ranging from blended learning, total quality management tools, team process improvement and solution selling. In addition to teaching, facilitation, and course development her experience includes sales and sales management, project management training and development consulting and speaking at national conferences including ASTD. Ms. Clark holds degrees in Education (BS) from NMSU and Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University.
