    Lunch and Learn Series
How to be more Effective in Your Instructional Design
    June 7, 14, 28 - 12:00-12:30 PM

ATD Greater Las Vegas is please to introduce a new opportunity for you. We will be opening our brown bags, logging in for 20-30 minutes Lunch and Learns throughout 2024. This series of 3 sessions, hosted by Amber Vanderburg, will focus on Improving your Instructional Design.

Upskilling your talent is critical within any team today. Training your team effectively impacts your competitive advantage, retention efforts, and team performance. Too often, instructional design can fall short resulting in disengaged, begrudged, theoretical, outdated training. In this session, you will learn practical action steps, strategies, and approaches that you can apply today to improve the effectiveness of your training. You’ll learn how to adjust your training to the virtual hybrid and in-person dynamic of teams, alter activities to be engaging and practical, and strategically build learning design in a proven 5 step process for a richer learning experience.

In this series, we’ll move beyond theory into hands-on experience designing a better program. We will share how to create an environment for better learning at the beginning of your training through purposeful warm-ups and specific questions to address in your preparations. Amber will share effective approaches to establish baseline knowledge and individual learning and growth opportunities, give insight into a series of progressions and build upon baseline knowledge into collaborative learning, and share approaches you can use to lead more powerful retrospectives/ debriefs in your sessions for more concrete takeaways and discussions within different team dynamics.

Lastly, you'll receive a framework to identify specific courses of action and accountability. Great training sessions don’t happen by accident but through strategic, intentional instructional design.

So, if you are ready to build a training program to transform the performance in your organization then let’s go!

Amber Vanderburg is a multi-award-winning international businessperson, keynote speaker, and founder of The Pathwayz Group. In 2016, she left her job in corporate HR to become the only female, only American, and only blonde Academy elite football coach for the Adidas Gameday Academy/Paris Saint Germain Academy in Bangalore, India. She worked with an international team of coaches to transform organizational design, training development, and corporate culture to cultivate a higher-performing team. Today, Amber and The Pathwayz Group work with international teams struggling with co-worker tension, inefficient processes, and unmet performance expectations in an action-focused approach to become more effective, efficient, and enjoyable.

    Accessibility for Online Learning
    (In-Person)

Are you someone who designs, facilitates, or manages online learning programs, including eLearning, webinars, virtual classrooms and training, websites and LMS's, computer-based job aids, social media, or anything else that involves some sort of digital technology? OR are you someone who manages people who performs those functions?.

If the answer to either question is YES, or even, I THINK so, but I'm not quite sure, then its critical to consider accessibility, disability, and usability in online learning. Without understanding the types of assistive technologies learners may use and need, and how to design for inclusion, you may unintentionally excluding your learners from achieving your learning program's objectives and goals.

It's estimated that between 20 and 25% of today's workforce has some sort of disability, can you afford to not have that amount of your staff not fully trained?

    During this session we will:

    • Discuss challenges facing disabled learners who participated in online learning
    • Understand the types of assistive technology used by disabled learners
    • Make adjustments while creating online learning materials to ensure they are accessible and usable
    • Evaluate accessibility and usability of your online learning materials.

If you are needing CEUs to recertify as APTD/CPTD, you are eligible to receive 1 credit.

Britne Jenke is currently the President Elect for the Chapter and has over 15 years of experience designing developing engaging innovating learning solutions. She has a background in web design and educational technology and is passionate about accessibility, disability advocacy, and inclusive design. She holds multiple certifications - CPTD, SHRM-SCP, and CPACC, and was featured in 2021 on ATD's DEI podcast for designing inclusive training.

This event is for In-Person Registration and Attendance. There is a separate event for Virtual Attendance. Location to be announced.

    Lunch and Learn Series
    Unforgettable Presentations (Virtual)

    July 12 & 26- 12:00-12:30 PM

ATD Greater Las Vegas is please to introduce a new opportunity for you. We will be opening our brown bags, logging in for 20-30 minutes Lunch and Learns throughout 2024. This series of 2 sessions, hosted by Darren LaCroix, will focus on developing effective presentations meant to help sell your product and message.

Do you want to deliver a good presentation, A great presentation, Or an Unforgettable Presentation? The process is different for each.

If you truly want you and your message to be UNFORGETTABLE, wouldn’t it make sense to learn from a coach who knows how?

Trying to be unforgettable without advice from an expert is like trying to assemble a new desk from Ikea without the directions and wondering why you have leftover 3 screws, 2 washers and a bracket!

In 2001 Darren LaCroix was tired of being average on the platform. He entered the speech contest against 35,000 contestants from 14 countries to take his skills to a level. His coach, World Champion Mark Brown, showed him what he had not known after being a presenter for seven years. Mark’s insights were essential to being unforgettable against some of the best speakers in the world. People still talk about Darren’s winning speech two decades later.

Darren will present 7 techniques to help delivery powerful and unforgettable presentations. The first 4 will be on July 12, and the remaining 3 will be two weeks later on July 26.

He felt invisible in high school. He failed as a business owner. He worked in a cubicle for over a decade. Today he's a world champion speaker. What made the difference for him can make the difference for you.

After a failed business in 1992, Darren LaCroix took a dare and took the stage at an open mic night at a Boston comedy club. He bombed miserably. It was horrible. The headliner that night told him, "Keep your day job kid." Friends told him that his dream of making people laugh for a living was crazy and stupid. He didn't listen.

He may have been born without a funny bone in his body, but Darren possessed the desire to learn and the willingness to fail. These were the essentials for achieving his dream. This self-proclaimed student of comedy is living proof that anything can be learned.

Less than nine years later, in 2001, Darren LaCroix outspoke 25,000 contestants from 14 countries to become the World Champion of Public Speaking…ironically with a very funny speech. Some said it was one of the best speeches in the history of the contest. Since that victory, has delivered keynotes in every state in the U.S. and 44 international cities. He is passionate about showing people that if you are a pray, find the right mentors, and become a sponge, anything is possible.

Darren is currently the only speaker in the world who is a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), an AS (Accredited Speaker), and a World Champion of Public Speaking. In spite of this, Darren always reminds people, “The letter after your name are not as important as the professional you become in the process.”

He is the author of the book 17 Minutes to Your Dream, the co-author of Deliver Unforgettable Presentations and the co-host of Unforgettable Presentations podcast. Through his live workshops and Stage Time University.com, he helps good presenters become UNFORGETTABLE.

This is a Virtual Event, and you will receive 1 CEU for attending both Lunch and Learns

Cultivate a Culture of Creativity, Collaboration,
    and Captainship

    (Virtual)

If you are needing CEUs to recertify as APTD/CPTD, you are eligible to receive 1 credit.

There are two factors that make all the difference between a good organization and one that is changing the world. The first is having a culture of collaboration – which means collaboration across individuals, departments, and teams – really - it’s a culture that’s less about competition and cutthroat political systems.. and more about helping each other achieve the extraordinary. The second quality is organizations that treat and expect their employees to act like owners. Owning not just their behaviors, actions, and responsibilities but also owning outcomes and becoming a voice for the organization. No matter where your organization is today, the good news is – there are proven strategies to create a culture of collaborative ownership in your organization and that’s what I’m going to teach you in this course. Our speaker will share how you can build momentum from a carefully crafted vision and goals, along with improving communication to drive ownership, and fostering creativity.

Compliance as an Assessment Tool and Business Strategy
    (In-Person)

In the works of Talent Development, Compliance is seen as a a nasty topic that revolves around those lessons that legal and HR require your workforce to complete on a regular basis. Compliance can also be seen as a positive business strategy, where it is used as a tool to assess and evaluate the quality of the learning organization. In this sense, we step outside the traditional Kirkpatrick and Philips Assessment and Evaluations Models and present a holistic vies of the entire L&D Organization that doesn't focus on a single learning event, course, or program.

We will focus on four major topics:

    • Identifying the need for formalized Learning Development, Delivery, and Management Processes
    • Develop a formalized Compliance and Assessment Plan that supports the entire organization
    • Discuss how to review and assess the major components and aspects of the L&D Department

If you are needing CEUs to recertify as APTD/CPTD, you are eligible to receive 1 credit.

Jeff Miller is currently the chapter's VP for Programming and Professional Development. He has nearly 25 years of experience working in the Public Sector, with over 15 years of developing, delivering, and managing training in the Navy and for the US Dept of Energy. Currently he works for a contractor at the Nevada National Security Sites as the Learning and Organizational Development Department Compliance Officer, where he ensures all nuclear training meets the US DOE requirements.

This event is for In-Person Registration and Attendance. There is a separate event for Virtual Attendance. Location will be announced at a later date.

In last year's pathway to bridge the gap between research and practice, we covered the fundamentals of training design and evaluation. This year, the ATD Las Vegas Chapter SIG will host bi-monthly series on applying what was learned with the goal of building a Community of Practice, so you are actively involved in creating this year's SIG. Check out the roadmap above for dates/time of our meetings.

We will discuss and practice 5 key themes. You can also bring on your cases related to your current or future work/project to receive feedback on, or simply present your thoughts or use cases.
